Ann Maguire killer in plot to murder another teacher’s unborn child
‘Four pupils saw boy’s knife’
TEENAGE killer Will Cornick plotted to stab a pregnant teacher in the stomach to murder her unborn child, an inquest heard yesterday.
Cornick, who knifed Spanish teacher Ann Maguire to death during a lesson, told school friends he was planning to attack two of her colleagues.
He wanted to target Sinead Miley’s baby and vowed he would stab Head of Year Andrew Kellett in the throat.
In the hours before murdering Mrs Maguire, the 15-year-old told 10 fellow pupils about his teacher hit list, the Wakefield, West Yorks, inquest was told.
Four of them were shown the 13in kitchen knife he later used on Mrs Maguire, 61, when he stabbed her eight times.
One pupil at Corpus Christi Catholic College, Leeds, claimed he was told to keep quiet by Cornick about his plot – or he would “get all of us”.
Another pupil told police: “He knew how to do it. He looked at the human body and how to kill people fast.”
Former Corpus Christi art teacher Emma Conway said: “It beggars belief that they wouldn’t share that information.” Another teacher, Marie Coleman, described it as “unfathomable”.
Giving evidence via Skype from Northern Ireland where she now works, Ms Conway said: “I taught Will for three years and I personally had no sense, no idea, and it still haunts me and still shocks me that he would do something so horrific.”
She described Mrs Maguire as “firm” but like a “mother figure”.
Cornick was given life for Mrs Maguire’s murder in 2014 and must serve a minimum of 20 years. The inquest continues.
