LIONS’ DEN IS NO PLACE FOR CITY SLICKERS

- BY ALEX SMITH

MANCHESTER CITY’S exhilarating, all-conquering brand of football is not welcome at The Den, according to Jed Wallace.

Kevin De Bruyne and Co’s sparkling style has seen City waltz to a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League.

But Millwall winger Wallace (above) insists the Lions’ “defend first, attack quickly” tactics will bring success.

Neil Harris’s men were relegation favourites at the beginning of the season, but a single defeat in six matches has seen them move nine points clear of the drop zone.

“We are geared to not have the football,” Wallace said. “It does help when we don’t have the ball. You see Manchester City, where they have possession all the time.

“When these big boys come here, after spending their millions, we get a few more on the crowd than normal. They are up for it and we’re up for it, and we can hit people on the counter attack.

“We are under no illusion that we are the best team in the division at passing the ball.

“But if anyone wants a bit of a tear up, then we are more than happy to do that.”

Wallace opened the scoring against Middlesbrough after perfectly timing his run and finish, before George Saville bundled through a series of blundering tackles to double the hosts’ lead.

Stewart Downing grabbed one back, then said: “The goals were very poor from our point of view. It was schoolboy stuff.”
