£3,654 bill for 14 extra jobs mums take on at Christmas

- BY IAN FLETCHER

MOTHERS carry out 14 extra tasks at Christmas that would cost £3,654 if handed to professionals, a study found.

Their chores include planning meals, buying food, child care and settling family squabbles.

They also organise decorations, are chief taxi driver and buy and wrap gifts – on top of five hours of preparing Christmas dinner.

Online retailer JD Williams said the tasks would cost up to £24 an hour at commercial pay rates and involve an army of workers.

The retailer’s Suzi Burns said: “It will be a shock for the rest of the family to see it would add up to thousands. It’s not just the cost, but how many different roles.

“We know you cannot put a price on the work mums do for love – but hopefully our study will make their efforts appreciated all the more.”
