MACCA AND OLLIE BLANK EACH OTHER

- BY DEREK DAVIS

NOT good enough to go up, not bad enough to go down – this mundane, goalless draw just about summed up both clubs.

Ian Holloway’s QPR side were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute when Josh Scowen got a second booking after tangling with Grant Ward off the ball, just outside the box, handing Town a great chance to win it.

But Bersant Celina was wasteful with the 22-yard free-kick.

“We had to contend with so many things,” said Holloway (top). “Did you think that was a sendingoff? No. Did you think there should have been a free-kick when their fella did the same.

“Luckily, for us, it was just a free-kick and not a penalty.”

Both teams had late shouts for penalties, as QPR’s Jack Robinson blocked a Joey Garner effort and the ball was accidentally handled by Town’s Dominic Iorfa.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy went for an attack-minded side, with four recognised strikers in Martyn Waghorn, Joey Garner, David McGoldrick and Freddie Sears.

But the tactic appeared to backfire as Ipswich were under the cosh and only poor final balls and decision-making by the Hoops let them off the hook.

“I have no complaints about the scoreline,” said McCarthy. “I’m not so happy about how we played.

“If we had got that penalty, we would have scored and it would have been different.

“That said, Dominic’s was probably a handball as well.”
