Sarah: Watching myself acting is abject torture

Sarah Lancashire was a hit early in her TV career in Corrie and things only got better, with recent huge success in Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley.

So it’s refreshing to know she worries about her job as much as the rest of us.

Sarah, who plays a social worker in Channel 4’s four-parter Kiri, right, starting Wednesday, tells us: “I try and turn up and do something acceptable. I’m a big prepper. I prep, prep, prep. But only because of fear – I’m driven by fear.”

And she finds viewing her work unbearable. “Watching myself is torture. Abject torture. I analyse everything.”

Apparently she used to be worse in her younger days. “As I’ve got older I’ve learned to switch off more.” Gosh.
