STAGS NIGHT WARNING OF A HANGOVER

Skipper pleads with Saints fans to lay off boss

STEVEN DAVIS has told Southampton fans they are not helping with their anti-Mauricio Pellegrino chanting.

MOTM WARD-PROWSE (SOUTHAMPTON) MANSFIELD midfielder Alex MacDonald is dreaming of Anfield after coming so close to an FA Cup upset at Cardiff.

The Stags midfielder curled a shot agonisingly wide as a chance went begging to dump out Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds.

But Warrington-born MacDonald reckons a dream draw against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool can inspire a replay victory at a hostile Field Mill – and leave Warnock feeling groggy.

He said: “You’ve got to watch the draw. It’s the best cup competition in the world and we’ll all look forward to watching it.

“You never know, if we pull a big name out of the hat, it could give us that extra boost we need.

“Obviously we have a big game to deal with first, but I’d love to play Liverpool away. I’ve always wanted to play at Anfield.

“We have to be confident in the replay after what we’ve done.

“Hopefully at our place with our support, we can get that extra goal that eluded us.”

Steve Evans’ side were on the back foot in the first half but had the chance to snatch the win in front of a miserly 6,378 crowd at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Lee Angol failed to beat home keeper Brian Murphy from close range before Paul Anderson’s shot was deflected wide.

But Mansfield No.1 Conrad Logan (above) had to pull off a stunning save to keep his side in the draw for the fourth round.

Logan got down to prevent what would have been an own goal in stoppage time from Krystian Pearce to earn the League Two club another bite.
