H&M axes ad of black lad in racism storm
FASHION chain H&M has pulled an online advert featuring a black boy after a furious row over racism.
The ad pictured the lad wearing a green hoodie with the words “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle”.
Calls for an H&M boycott grew when it was revealed a white child in the ad wore a top with the words “Survival Expert”.
Labour MP Kate Osamor said: “I was totally shocked, to say the least.
“Do you think this is an appropriate representation of a young black boy?”
And New York Times columnist Charles M Blow posted: “Have you lost your damned minds?”
Alexander Foucard tweeted: “What universe do you live in?”
H&M said it had been removed and apologised.
