I got my best friend back

Cowell reward boy reunited with dog

A LAD of three whose plea to find his stolen border terrier led Simon Cowell to offer a reward of £10,000 has got his “best friend” back.

Edward Latter feared pet Morse had gone for good when five minutes after he darted out of the family home he was seen being bundled by two men into a van.

The hunt for the dog just before Christmas sparked a huge response, with thousands joining in and X Factor boss Cowell making his offer.

But at the weekend Edward discovered his 10-month-old pet had escaped his captors.

He said: “We have got Morse back. I can’t believe it, I have my best friend back.” It is thought the crooks may have wanted to use the terrier as a stud. Edward’s parents Amanda Hopkins and Richard Latter of Marden, Kent, got a call from a couple 20 miles away who had found a muddy dog who could be Morse. They sent a photo and the family rushed over. Richard, 40, was sceptical but “Edward saw him and recognised him straight away”. He added: “He said ‘Morse coming home with us?’ He was absolutely over the moon.” Mum-of-two Michelle Holt, 41, who found Morse, said she had not yet heard from Cowell but was “elated” the dog was home.
