SLIM CHANCE OF TURKEY

- BY JAMES NURSEY

TURKISH club Besiktas are trying to sign Leicester striker Islam Slimani whose best hopes of an escape now lie abroad.

Algerian hitman Slimani, 29, has struggled for regular starts at City and is very frustrated.

Premier League duo Watford and Newcastle have looked at him but their interest has cooled. It has left Besiktas in pole position following the sale of their Turkey striker Cenk Tosun to Everton for £27million.

Besiktas president Fikret Orman was at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night to see Slimani (right) play against Fleetwood in the FA Cup.

It was his 46th appearance for the Foxes, during which he has scored 13 goals since a club-record £29m switch from Sporting Lisbon in August 2016.

Leicester manager Claud Puel is also willing to sell fellow frontman Ahmed Musa this window, with the £16m Nigeria international also failing to make an impact at the Foxes.

Puel is also likely to move for a new right-back with first choice Danny Simpson a long-term injury absentee.
