THE horror James Bulger’s mum felt at his murder in 1993 was deepened by the shock of learning two boys little older than him were his killers.

Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, both 10, were caught on CCTV leading James, a month off his third birthday, from Liverpool’s New Strand Shopping Centre.

She had let go of his hand for a split second to pay for pork chops.

At first, no one thought the boys could actually be responsible for James’s murder. But the nation was soon to learn how calculating and cruel the pair had been.
