Gran beats illness for 25yrs at till

BATTLER Sue Vipond A RETIRED nurse is to celebrate 25 years volunteeri­ng at a Cancer Research UK shop – nine years after being diagnosed with the illness herself.

Sue Vipond, 68, was told she had ovarian cancer in 2009 after going to her GP with abdominal pain. She had surgery and six cycles of chemothera­py.

The gran, of Peebles, in the Scottish Borders, who is married to John, said: “When I was told it was cancer I was upset but thought, ‘Right I’ve just got to deal with this’.

“There were days I felt terrible. But I carried on at my local CRUK shop.

“Sometimes I can’t believe it happened. Now I am planning a trip to New Zealand via USA so we can visit our sons.”
