Jose’s Shaw changed his tune as Reds offer new deal

- EXCLUSIVE BY JAMES NURSEY

LUKE SHAW is in line to win a lucrative new long-term deal at Manchester United before the end of the season.

The England left-back appears to have won over Jose Mourinho after a torrid couple of years under the Reds boss. Shaw, 22, has struggled for game time since returning from a foot operation last spring, but is now back in the first team reckoning at

FROM BACK PAGE Old Trafford. Mourinho’s public criticisms of Shaw reached the point where team-mates believed he was being treated unfairly.

At the end of last season, one decent display was described by Mourinho as “his body with my brain”, and Shaw was told he needed to “accelerate the learning process”.

He had to wait until December for his first Premier League start of the season, but has been selected for five of United’s seven games in 2018, as Ashley Young was hit with a three-match suspension.

Shaw’s displays have pleased the Reds manager, who Mirror Sport revealed on January 5 had pulled him aside at the team hotel to get assurances he was fully fit and ready.

He has 18 months left on his £80,000-a-week contract after United extended his deal until 2019. Now they plan to tie down the defender on new and improved terms.
