PINK FIZZ

-

Cava Rosado, £5.50, Tesco Opened with a very satisfying pop and had lots of lively bubbles. A rich, deep colour with a really good fruity hit that was very easy to drink. It’s very dry and more like champagne than a cava. It tasted more expensive than the price tag would suggest.

Purple Heron Sparkling Rose Wine, £6.99, Lidl A deeper, dark colour that was sweet with a distinct cherry flavour. Endless small bubbles that danced on the tongue. A decent bottle for the price.

Irresistible Sparkling Rose, £7.99, Co-op A very delicate pink with plenty of playful bubbles. Light and fresh, the colour was deceptive as it had plenty of raspberry flavour and was very easy to drink.

24KT Pinot Noir Rose Brut Luxury Edition, £10, Asda A standout metallic pink bottle that looked glamorous, and the bubbly was a rich salmon pink. But the taste was slightly sweet and lacked personality. It didn’t live up to the image.

Wm Morrison Brut Rose Champagne, £20, Morrisons An inviting dusky pink, but deceptively sharp which took us by surprise. It was dry and reminded us of pink grapefruit – we found it difficult to drink.

Chateau De Champteloup Cremant De Loire Rose, £7.99, Aldi In a cute, dumpy bottle, it was pale with the barest hint of pink and the bouquet was full of berry promise. While it was smooth and creamy, we felt the aroma didn’t translate on to our taste buds.

Bellante Vino Spumante Extra Dry Rose, £10, Marks & Spencer Just the slightest hint of pink and not a lot of bubbles for a sparkling number. Dry with a very discreet flavour – a bit bland.

Taste the Difference Pinot Rose Vino Spumante, £9, Sainsbury’s A pretty, light pink that had lots of fizz. Dry with a very pleasant fruit kick. We thought it was a nice and refreshing alternative to prosecco.
