YOU’RE NOT A PATCH ON OUR JJ Jones warns Welsh hero Rhys: Every time that you look up, you will have Jonathan Joseph in your face... that’s not a great sight

EDDIE JONES has labelled Wales “cocky” and declared war on their rookie fly-half Rhys Patchell.

England’s head coach did not hold back as he recalled Jonathan Joseph – in place of Ben Te’o – for tomorrow’s Twickenham clash.

After claiming to have reported Alun Wyn Jones for disrespectful behaviour, he turned his fire on “third-choice” Patchell – warning of a nightmare heading his way.

“Every time Rhys Patchell looks up, he’s going to have Jonathan Joseph in his vision – it’s not a great sight,” said Jones, who is bidding for his 24th win in 25 matches.

“Wales are definitely confident and cocky. They definitely believe in the way they play. But it will be different for young guys like Patchell in front of 82,000 people at Twickenham. It will be one hell of an experience for the kid.”

Patchell, 24, impressed on his Six Nations debut last weekend, plotting Scotland’s downfall on his first start at No.10.

But Jones (right) countered: “It is easy to play when you are on the front foot and the ball is fizzing from side to side. This will be a proper Test match – we’ll see if he has the bottle for it.

“We’ve got George Ford, who has played a lot of Test rugby and has got the experience of Owen Farrell and Danny Care either side of him. Who’s Patchell going to look for?

“He hasn’t got a lot of experience inside or outside him. He is going to be under some heat. I’d imagine that when Alun Wyn Jones and the guys go down for breakfast on Saturday morning, they’ll be looking at Patchell (below), thinking, ‘Can this kid handle the pressure?’.” Jones’ outburst came two days after Wales coach Warren Gatland got in first to accurately reveal England’s line-up and claim his team were the fitter side, with nothing to fear at Twickenham.

“Warren’s been talking a lot this week,” Jones agreed. “He’s clever, isn’t he?”

The Aussie declined to get into a slanging match on fitness levels, but he admitted England are “20 per cent away from where we need to be”.

He came out fighting, however, on behalf of the Twickenham crowd, which rarely generates the sort of atmosphere found under the roof in Cardiff.

“The 82,000 crowd is like our 24th man,” Jones said. “They’re going to be full of passion – it’s going to be a great Saturday.

“Twickenham is an advantage for us – but it would take a seriously good side to beat England anywhere.”
