OAP’s grateful tear as girl, 13, hands in lost £1k wallet

-

HONEST Caitlin Jeffery A PENSIONER who lost a wallet with £995 inside has said a girl of 13 brought a tear to his eye with her honesty by handing it in.

Dennis Clatworthy, who is 80 and almost completely blind and deaf, lost it on a shopping trip. Schoolgirl Caitlin Jeffery saw the wallet in the road and took it to a shop owner.

Five adults tried to claim it was theirs after it was given to police in Exeter, Devon, and there was nothing obvious to identify Dennis apart from an old photo of him. But a social media appeal led to 20 people contacting his son Mark.

Dennis said: ”What she did was brilliant. I know people who would not have handed it in.

“I had a tear in my eye when I got it back. I am so grateful. Teenagers get a hard time but I cannot thank her enough.”

Mark, 57, added: ”My dad sent Caitlin a £50 reward. Her parents must be proud of her.”

Caitlin said: ”I was really happy Dennis got it all back.”
