Corrie Simon: My wife nearly died from ectopic pregnancy
CORONATION Street star Simon Gregson has told how his wife came within hours of death after suffering an ectopic pregnancy.
Emma did not even know she was expecting a baby when she went to hospital with severe stomach pains.
Simon, who plays Steve McDonald, said: “They told me Emma would’ve died if it had been left for a few more hours. She was literally two hours away from death.”
It comes a year after the actor, who has three sons with his wife, spoke of their agony following 11 miscarriages. Emma said she had been unwell for a few weeks when she had pain so bad she “couldn’t stand up” in September. She added: “We didn’t know I was pregnant, so it came as a double blow. I was petrified. I thought I was never going to see my sons ever again.
“I kept thinking: ‘I’m going to die, this is it’. As they were prepping me for surgery I had to keep signing lots of forms. It was the most frightening time I’ve had.” Simon, 43, also told OK! Magazine the pair, married 18 years, have stopped trying for another child.
He said: “As Emma has come so close to death, that’s it for us. She so desperately wanted a little girl... but after nearly losing her, I’m having the snip.” In 2017, Simon told of their miscarriage hell as his character had a stillbirth storyline on the ITV soap.
Emma has also spoken of losing the twin of their youngest son Teddy, now two, in the early stages of pregnancy.
