NUHIU’S IN SAVE HANDS

- BY BILL COOPER

ATDHE NUHIU aims to clinch a new deal at Sheffield Wednesday – by grabbing the goals that will stave off the drop.

Hitman Nuhiu’s contract runs out in June, and he wants to extend his five-year stay at Hillsborough.

But the 6ft 6ins Kosovo international, who joined from Rapid Vienna, knows his future hangs in the balance with the Owls fighting for their Championship lives. Nuhiu put away a penalty for his fifth goal of the season to earn his side a point at fellow strugglers Barnsley.

But Wednesday are without a win in five league games, and host Derby tonight precariously placed just six points off the bottom three.

Nuhiu (right) admitted: ”I want to stay but all I can do is my best.”

Rams are unbeaten in 12 Championship games but have still lost second spot to Aston Villa.

Boss Gary Rowett said: “While we have been on a fantastic run you can’t control what other teams are doing so that’s a problem for us.”
