1991: BBC television commentato­r Ron Pickering died, aged 60. A top coach, he guided Lynn Davies to the 1964 Olympic long jump gold medal.

1992: Liverpool signed a then-record £4million four-year sponsorshi­p deal with brewers Carlsberg.

1999: Arsenal offered to replay their FA Cup third-round clash (above) with Sheffield United after a controvers­ial Marc Overmars goal decided the tie.

2009: The second Test between England and West Indies was abandoned after 10 balls when the playing surface in Antigua was deemed unfit.

2012: Wolves sacked Mick McCarthy.
