Figure skating on reall thin ice

-

THE Dancing On Ice figures are sliding almost as badly as Cheryl Baker was on her first day on the rink.

The ITV show was launched to much fanfare on January 7, when ratings hit 7.7 million. But just 4.7 million tuned in on Sunday to see Lemar slip sliding away from the contest in a week which, ironically, had the theme of “Love”. More like no love lost. This is the first series since 2014, so it was always a big deal for the channel. Bosses had hoped it would rival BBC One’s hit Strictly Come Dancing, which regularly pulls in 10 million viewers.

But as Dancing on Ice ratings went into freefall, fans started venting on Twitter, saying what they think is wrong with the show and why the skaters need to improve.

One viewer said: “In past series Hayley Tam and Ray Quinn looked like pros at this stage – it’s still so awkward and boring maybe it’s the choreography.”

Another person tweeted: “The choreography is rubbish and we need Jayne (Torvill) and Christopher (Dean) back.” Others felt a

two-hour show was “way too long”, and some people pointed the finger at certain contestants, with Antony Cotton dubbed “really arrogant”.

Producers have taken some of the criticism on board, announcing a double eviction this week to spice things up a bit.

Another series has been commissioned for 2019, so let’s hope they have a bit more sparkle and pizzazz up their diamante sleeves for the last few weeks of the competition.

After all, nobody likes skating on thin ice.
