Baby test in ‘defects link’

CHEMICALS in controvers­ial pregnancy test pills cause damage to embryos, tests on zebrafish show.

Primodos was axed in 1978 but its components are still in use in drugs such as contracept­ives.

Dr Neil Vargesson More, who led the University of Aberdeen study, said more tests are needed on norethiste­rone acetate and ethinyl estradiol.

It came after a state review found no “causal associatio­n” between the tests and birth defects.
