Call off cull

FINALLY, the Tories are waking up to the senselessness of the badger cull.

After spending more than £23million on the cruel extermination programme, Michael Gove has now agreed to review the scheme.

Campaigners have long argued there are more effective and compassionate ways of curbing the spread of Bovine TB. So it is good that the Environment Secretary has at last decided to consult on the alternatives, such as vaccination and better testing.

But if the Tories want to prove they are the party of animal welfare they should follow Labour’s lead and ditch the cull right now.
