Arrogant Oxfam boss blasted for ‘not getting it’
A TOP Tory has attacked Oxfam’s chief for his “arrogant” reply to sex scandal claims hitting the charity.
Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson said Mark Goldring “doesn’t get it” and suggested he could have to fight to keep his job.
She warned: “If he wants to lead Oxfam he has to demonstrate he understands what it did wrong.”
Oxfam has been accused of hiding an inquiry into claims staff used prostitutes in Haiti in 2011. All bids for government aid cash from the charity have been halted.
Last week Mr Goldring, who joined the charity after the scandal, criticised the “ferocity” of reaction to the claims, saying: “What did we do? Murder babies in their cots?”
Since then he has struck a more conciliatory tone, writing in the Sunday Mirror: “We are sorry”.
But Ms Davidson told ITV’s Peston on Sunday: “It wasn’t just what happened, it was the way they dealt with it – to either lay off or pay off – rather than report.
“And even the arrogant response since then, from what the CEO said in the last couple of days. That makes it harder for everybody.”
