Dying in wait to get home

-

PATIENTS who want to go home to die are facing their final hours in hospital because of NHS pressures.

Some 60% of nurses say it happens often, with 90% seeing examples.

More than half think the number stuck in hospital has risen since last year.

One acute nurse told the Nursing Standard and Marie Curie survey: “Fasttrack services to get patients home are not very fast. Patients often die with us in hospital before they’re able to get home.”
