A YOUNG rugby union player collapsed and died in front of heartbroken teammates during a training session.
Doncaster Knights prop forward Ian Williams, 27, could not be resuscitated.
Oxford graduate Williams, who was 6ft 4in and 20st, only joined Doncaster last year, after a spell with nearby Rotherham Titans.
A statement from Doncaster, who are fourth in the Champion- ship, said: “It is with great sadness that Doncaster RFC announces the passing of Ian Williams. “Ian collapsed at training at Castle Park this morning and, despite the best efforts of the emergency response team, could not be resuscitated.” Tributes have flooded in for Swansea-born Williams. Doncaster chief executive Gavin Baldwin said: “Ian was a prop with plenty of his career ahead of him. This is a sad loss.”
