Fury as WW1 trees felled

-

A COUNCIL has been slammed for cutting down 15 holly trees said to have been planted to mark the end of the First World War.

Kirklees council said they were used as cover for anti-social behaviour and removed them from Wilton Park in Batley, West Yorks, despite protests.

Peter Fawcett, 69, saved them in 2013 and said: “It’s an outrage. These were not bushes, they were trees.”

He added the move could contravene the 1990 Planning Act.
