EXIT DOOR AT FOXES BECKONS FOR HUTH

-

PREMIER LEAGUE titlewinner Robert Huth might have played his last game for Leicester, after paying the price for the form of Harry Maguire. Huth has not played for the Foxes for nine months and is set to sit out today’s home game against his former club Stoke.

And manager Claude Puel admits he is struggling to find a place for the German (above) in his matchday squad.

Huth, 33, whose contract is up at the end of the season, has become the Foxes’ fifth-choice centreback – behind Wes Morgan, Aleksandar Dragovic, Yohan Benalouane and Maguire himself – after missing the start of the season with an ankle injury.

“Robert is an experienced player,” said Leicester manager Puel. “There is some frustration perhaps, but he keeps a good attitude in training.

“He also gives good information and advice to the young players.

“He’s also a man with a lot of humour. I like this. I’d like to give him some more game time, but it’s about competition and we need to respect this.

“He’s a good professional. He is fit and has good attributes.

“We have five strong centre-backs for two places. It’s difficult for some players to give them all the game time they want.

“Robert has not had a lot of game time at this moment. It is difficult for him, but we will see at the end of the season what happens.”

Maguire, 24, has established himself as a key figure at the King Power Stadium by playing every minute for the Foxes in the Premier League this season.

“If we need to manage him sometimes with a small injury we will but, for the moment, he has good fitness and is enjoying his football,” added Puel.

“It is not a problem. For Harry, it is not the same management as Wes Morgan. If we had to play games in a short space of time, we might have to rest Wes, as he is 34.

“But Harry can play all these games. He is a young player, he has good recovery, and a good engine.”
