Town hall chiefs warn of fake news danger
SCAMMERS pumping out “fake news” are hampering council services, town hall chiefs have warned today.
The Local Government Association say people posing as council agents have put up false parking signs to trick drivers into obeying non-existent laws and sent dodgy emails to con people out of money.
The LGA’s Simon Blackburn said: “The ability to supply accurate information is crucial to councils, whether it’s advising of closures in severe weather or updating residents on essential services.
