Film legend Sridevi dies at age of 54
THE actress said to be Bollywood’s first female superstar has died aged 54.
Sridevi suffered a cardiac arrest in Dubai where she was attending a family wedding.
She began acting at the age of four and appeared in 300 films, winning fame playing feisty characters in contrast to the standard coy Bollywood heroines.
Fellow star Priyanka Chopra tweeted: “Condolences to everyone who loved Sridevi. A dark day.”
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed her “diverse roles and memorable performances”.
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar said: “We all grew up watching her and to hear she is no longer with us is hard to digest.”
She married producer Boney Kapoor in 1996.
