DAVID MOYES has set his West Ham side a target of a point a game to beat the drop.

The Hammers have turned their season around since the arrival of the experienced Scottish boss and yet still find themselves just three points above the bottom three.

Over the next few weeks the East Londoners, who lost their first three Premier League games of the season, have season-defining games against relegation rivals Swansea, Southampton and Stoke, as well as a home fixture with out-ofform Burnley.

And Moyes believes 10 more points could yet be enough to see his side safe and allow him to start thinking about next season and the chance to rebuild the club. “I think the target tends to be 40 points,” he said after the disappointing defeat at Anfield.

“If it works out that way, we need a point a game between now and the end of the season with 10 games to go. But a lot of teams are saying the same. “Some teams are saying they need more than that so we’ve got to make sure we keep our heads above it.” While West Ham again fell to a 4-1 defeat by Liverpool, just as they had at the London Stadium in November, their performance was much better than the result. And the Scot (left) insisted his side could take heart from their display. “We played some good stuff and I honestly believe if we had shown a bit more courage going forward on the ball we could have got something from the game,” said Moyes, yet to win at Anfield. “Marko Arnautovic deserved a goal today but it wasn’t to be.”
