£1.6m cost of bin strike aid
THE bill for outside contractors during a council bin workers’ strike will hit £1.6million.
Birmingham Council, was “modernising” the service to save £5million.
It now has a £6.6million hole in its finances which it will have to fill from “rainy day” funds.
The strike lasted more than 222 days.
A council spokesman said: “Our focus is on working with employees and unions to develop a modern waste service.”
