3. WHY WAS THE EAR INTACT?

Viewers had plenty of questions after episode one – one of which was about the state of THAT ear.

When schoolboy Leo’s body was found in the wall three years after his abduction, it had decayed to a skeleton.

All, that is, except for his ear. Was this an error, or had the ear been preserved in the wall somehow? Elsewhere, Friel clarified other continuity “concerns”. To accusations of her accent “slipping”, she tweeted: “Umm, no slips. She is from Lancashire and has lived in London for 20 years.”

Friel also insisted Marcella’s “unusual gait” was because “some characters have a funny walk”. And she told fans to “embrace the new” when they mourned her famous parka, which is no more. But we also want to know how she breezed into work after an attack in which she was kicked in the stomach and had her head smashed into a wall. Did she call in sick next day? Did she heck. She bounded back in, with not a nod from boss Rav (Ray Panthaki). What a hero. We love an underdog, and certainly don’t want her to jump off that building. But we may have to wait until the series finale to find that out.
