SIR Ken Dodd will be allowed home today after more than six weeks in hospital with a severe chest infection.

The comedy legend praised medics who cared for him and thanked fans for their support.

Doddy, 90, said at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital: “I have been so very, very welltreated – I can’t praise the staff here too highly. They’ve been absolutely wonderful.

“The kindness and, dare I say it, affection I have been shown has been absolutely amazing.”

As he prepared to return to his beloved Knotty Ash home, he added: “I’ve been lucky enough to receive thousands of cards.

“I want to sincerely thank everyone – all the staff and all the people who have wished me well. It’s all helped me get better, there’s no doubt about that.”

The star, who was admitted on January 12, said he is “not out of the woods” yet. “For example, I need to get my legs sorted out, because they seem to take me in a different direction than the one I want to go in!” he said.

But he wanted to celebrate, adding: “It’s a happy time. Spring is on its way, and so am I.”
