Mobile pay takes off
Spending via mobile phones shot up 328% last year to £975million, compared to £289m in 2016.
Figures from payment processor firm Worldpay reveal 126million transactions using Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay were made in 2017, up from 38m the previous year. A third of people now pay via their smartphone, accounting for 59% of in-store transactions. James Frost from Worldpay, said: “Contactless cards have paved the way for mobile payment adoption, but there is still work to be done.”
