SILVAS AND COLD
Bernardo and David spark rout as stayaway fans give Wenger flops the big freeze
FED-UP fans deserted Arsene Wenger as his side were ripped apart by City for the second time in four days.
The Arsenal boss looked a forlorn figure at a half-empty Emirates as his spineless side shipped three goals in 33 minutes to the brilliant Blues, the Gunners losing by the same scoreline as in Sunday’s League Cup final.
Wenger sat impassively in his dug-out, and his misery was complete as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a penalty.
ARSENAL want to sign three players this summer – but will have to do it on a budget.
The club are chasing a new keeper, new centre-half, and defensive midfielder as their targets for this summer’s transfer window.
The Gunners’ new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has been charged with delivering the wish list – despite the uncertainty surrounding Arsene Wenger.
Manager Wenger was hamstrung in the last window, after splashing £56million on PierreEmerick Aubameyang, and did not feel the club could afford West Brom defender Jonny Evans as well.
They are likely to go back for Evans in the summer, as he has a £3m buy-out clause if Albion go down.
Arsenal also want a longterm successor for No.1 Petr Cech, and the club want to solve the midfield issue as they lack an experienced anchorman.
They are well stocked in every other department, but will only have limited funds to rebuild the squad.
The new £200m Emirates kit deal does not kick in until the following year and Wenger – or whoever replaces him if he goes – will be charged with reshaping the squad, without having huge funds at their disposal.
