Heseltine blasts PM’s approach to Brexit

-

TOP Tory Michael Heseltine has blasted Theresa May over her wishy-washy Brexit strategy.

The ex-Deputy PM said her speech on Friday amounted to “generalisations and platitudes” which would do nothing to clinch a deal.

Mrs May had called on the EU to “get on with” negotiating a Brexit deal and admitted failing to reach an agreement would be bad for the UK.

But pro-EU peer Lord Heseltine said: “The speech just moves us further down the cherrypicking road. It set out the cherries that Britain wants to pick but ignores the fact that the EU has said, ‘Sorry there is no cherry picking’.”

Mrs May yesterday told the BBC her speech was “practically based and therefore credible”.

She spoke as the Irish government expressed doubt that Brussels would accept her plan to avoid a hard border with Northern Ireland.
