- BY DAVID McDONNELL

FROM BACK PAGE at Anfield. “They defended so deep when they came here so let’s see what happens this time,” said the Croatian.

And when asked if he expects a similar approach from Mourinho (right) on his own patch tomorrow, he said: “They need the points, so ROMELU LUKAKU has described himself as Jose Mourinho’s sergeant on the pitch for Manchester United. The £75million striker has started all but one of United’s Premier League games this season and scored 23 goals in all competitions. And the former Chelsea and Everton star (left) said: “I think definitely. For them it will be a good point but we never play for a point. We will play like we play every game.. with attacking football.

“Maybe they are not in the best shape but still they win ugly. What matters is the points. It will be a tough challenge.” the manager thinks I’m like his sergeant on the pitch, and that’s strange for a striker because it’s usually the midfielders who have that role.

“I think he knows I have that soldier mentality.”

The 24-year-old Belgium international believes his industry is what makes him so important to Mourinho. “I think I give work-rate to the team and the manager knows he can rely on me,” he said. “I will always put the team first and that’s something I told him. I said ‘the team is the most important thing.’

“I have always wanted to win trophies but the desire to win is greater than ever since I came to this club. I always put that in front of my personal objectives and he knows that, and I think that’s the reason I’m playing all the time.”
