KANT DO BETTER THAN GROSS

- BY DAVID MADDOCK BY CHRIS HATHERALL

SAM ALLARDYCE says £27million striker Cenk Tosun is not an emblem of Everton’s failure but a top-class goalscorer who will show his worth next season.

CHRIS HUGHTON reckons Pascal Gross is the new N’Golo Kante – because every club will be wondering how they missed him.

Gross (left), 26, signed from German minnows Ingolstadt for just £3million, has been a revelation in the Premier League. Heading into today’s match at Everton the attacking midfielder has scored five goals with eight Premier League assists.

Not bad for a player at a newly-promoted club who nobody in England had heard of before he arrived on the South Coast.

Seagulls boss Hughton said: “I think everybody is looking for that player.

“Whenever a player does extremely well, everybody wants to know why their club didn’t get him.

“Probably the biggest example in recent seasons is the lad Kante at Chelsea. He’s been outstanding at Chelsea and Leicester.

“He would be the type of player all the clubs who can afford him would have been looking and thinking, ‘Why did we miss out on him’?”
