Oh Arsene Wenger.. WE WANT YOU TO STAY!
Even Fergie’s backing the troubled Gunners boss in his hour of need
SIR ALEX FERGUSON has backed Arsene Wenger over his troubles at Arsenal.
The Manchester United legend has put aside their years of bitter rivalry to send the Gunners boss support in his darkest hour.
“I’ve got many messages. I’m very grateful, you take perspective,” said Wenger (right), who has no intention of standing down despite growing pressure at the Emirates.
“Current and past, I have a good relationship with Ferguson. Sometimes he sends me a message
when things don’t go well.” At their peak both managers were sworn enemies, but Wenger added: “I support all managers always.
“There is no possibility in football not to suffer, you have to suffer. The desire to find solutions is interesting. As a young manager you think you can win every game but it’s not like that. It is to survive disappointments. It can make you a better manager.”
Humiliating defeats to Spurs, Ostersund and Manchester City have seen fans and ex-players, like Ian Wright (left), calling for Wenger’s head – but Thursday’s Europa League win at AC Milan makes Arsenal the favourites to reach the quarter-finals.
Wenger said: “I must stand up for what is important for the club, the results and the way we play.”
