256,000 a yr killed by lead

EXPOSURE to lead from petrol, paint and old plumbing causes hundreds of thousands of premature deaths, a study suggests.

Low levels over decades kill 256,000 Americans aged over 44 each year, said research by Simon Fraser University in Canada.

But Professor Bruce Lanphear added: “Lead exposure will be lower in younger generations.”
