WHAM BAM! BLUEBIRDS FLY AFTER SOL’S SUPER SLAM

-

NEIL WARNOCK enjoyed the perfect night as Cardiff made it a magnificent seven.

And it could well be the evening where an eighth career promotion was won for the fiery 69-year-old.

Not only did the Bluebirds come from behind to win a seventh straight game, nearest rivals Aston Villa lost – to leave a seven-point gap, with only nine games to play.

It could have been such a different story, though.

Brentford led through Neal Maupay’s goal in a fifth-minute one-on-one and then missed a hatful of chances.

But it was Cardiff who showed why they have come from nowhere to put a top-flight return within touching distance.

They levelled up in fine style as defender Sol Bamba (left) unleashed a stunning bullet of a volley on the turn from just inside the area on 25 minutes.

And just when Brentford had responded well to that setback after an energetic start, Cardiff scored at the perfect time in first-half stoppage-time. Utility man Callum Paterson fired home, after Junior Hoilett punished Josh Clarke’s error, to make it three goals in three games.

And it was Kenneth Zohore’s close-range, 58th-minute finish that sealed victory for the Bluebirds, with another assist for Hoilett.
