RAF’s 100yrs celebrated in new stamps

- BY JACK HUNTER

THE Red Arrows and Vulcan bomber will feature on stamps marking the centenary of the RAF.

The limited-edition set will show the First World War Sopwith Camel, the Hurricane from the Battle of Britain, a Vulcan B2, the Lightning F6, the Nimrod MR2 and Typhoon FGR4.

The Red Arrows are pictured performing four aerobatic formations.

The RAF became the world’s first independent air force on April 1, 1918, with the merger of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Navy Air Service.

RAF pilots fought across the Western Front in the Great War and played a key role against Hitler’s Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain in 1940.

The stamps will be available from Tuesday.
