ITALIAN NOISE LAID TO REST..

-

GREIG LAIDLAW turned a deaf ear to an Italian loudspeaker blast to ensure Scotland’s tournament did not end on a sour note.

Scrum-half Laidlaw (right) was lining up his crucial last-gasp penalty in Rome when an announcement came over the Stadio Olimpico PA system.

But the unwelcome broadcast did not put off the Clermont Auvergne star as he slotted over to clinch victory. Laidlaw, 32, said: “Somebody mentioned the announcement but I wasn’t aware. “There is always noise and it’s part of being a goalkicker that you have to block noise out. That kick is up there with the best I’ve hit. “But I told the boys I’d prefer they don’t get us in that situation again.”
