Bert ready to land knockout blow in Spring Mile
HUMBERT is fancied to continue his upward curve to land the Spring Mile (2.25) at Doncaster this afternoon.
The Hugo Palmer trainee, off the track for 458 days since showing promise in two outings as a juvenile in 2016, has gone from strength to strength this winter.
Gelded in the interim, Humbert landed a punt to score in maiden company at Kempton 12 days before Christmas, following up in handicap company at Wolverhampton in the middle of January.
At the start of last month, Josephine Gordon’s mount racked up the hat-trick back at Kempton, before finding only the well-treated Constantino half a length too strong at Lingfield three weeks ago.
There’s no reason why Humbert shouldn’t take another step forward now he returns to turf and, despite a 2lb rise from his last run, another good show is on the cards.
The Listed Cammidge Trophy (1.50) is a good opportunity LANCELOT DU LAC for to begin his turf season with a bang.
The undoubted high point of last season was the Dean Ivory veteran’s 25-1 triumph in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood – and he was back in winning form at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago. Robert Winston’s mount is officially the best horse in the race and Lancelot Du Lac should prove the point with a 13th career win. The market for the Listed Doncaster Mile (3.00) is dominated TABARRAK by and Zabeel Prince, with preference for the former (left). The Richard Hannon trainee ended 2017 with a score in this grade at Newbury in September and there could be more to come. OISTRAKH LE At Newbury, NOIR
looks a worthy favourite for the Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (2.40).
He landed the odds with authority at Market Rasen on his second start since coming over from France, and the Ben Pauling four-year-old has been given a chance by the handicapper.
The featured Mares Novices’ Hurdle Final (3.15) looks as PETTICOAT trappy as ever, but TAILS
comes here at the top of WOTZIZNAME her game, while is the one to remember for the opening handicap chase (2.05).
