We’d all love to have Mel back

Old neighbours support Lotto pal

SNUBBED lottery winner Melissa Ede met up with her old next-door neighbours yesterday and was told: “We’d love you to live here.”

The down-to-earth couple on a council estate hit out at “snobby” families who blocked transgender Mel’s plan to move into her dream home on a posh development.

They told Mel: “They may not want you but we do. You were a perfect neighbour, the best we’ve ever had.” Former taxi driver Mel felt hurt after families six miles away in Cottingham, East Yorks, made it clear they didn’t want her.

The £4million scratchcard winner had set her heart on a £440,000 five-bed house until a residents’ group opposed the sale, citing her celebrity profile.

Mel, 57, who posts odd videos with items such as mayonnaise bottles hanging from her chest, said she felt forced to pull out.

McDonald’s worker Gina Elliott, 46, and jobless Andrew, 43, lived next to Mel in East Hull for six years when she was taxi driver Les.

Gina said: “It’s not fair or right what they’ve done. I’m wondering if they think Mel’s going to be like that other winner who wrecked his garden using it as a bike track. But she’s not like that.

“I bet if Mel was a doctor or a lawyer they wouldn’t have cared. It’s a bit sad.”

Mel said Gina and Andrew had lifted her spirits, adding: “I really don’t know what these others expected. That I’d skinny dip in their pond?”
