Buffoon Boris still Putin his foot in it

-

BORIS Johnson must be the most undiplomatic Foreign Minister we have ever had. Anyone comparing Putin with Hitler must be ignorant, yet we’re led to believe Boris is extremely intelligent. He may be knowledgeable about the classics but in other fields he’s unreasonable.

The situation with Russia needs to be handled as Theresa May is doing, by enlisting support from our allies and piling the international pressure on Russia to improve its behaviour.

Diplomatic pressure is more likely to succeed as Russia is far too big and powerful to be brought to heel by name-calling. Johnson should wake up and realise we are no longer the world’s strongest power.

We used to have a good reputation for diplomacy, but Johnson is singlehandedly reducing us to ridicule. Terry Marriott, Waterlooville, Hants It’s way over the top comparing Putin to Hitler. Any comparison is offensive to Russians who suffered so much at the hands of the Nazis. Putin may be obnoxious but he isn’t motivated by visceral racism and doesn’t operate slave labour camps. Tellingly, Russia is a leading nation in the Paralympic Movement. Johnson will be loathed by the great majority of Russians for saying this and, sadly, some of them may take it out on English football fans during the World Cup. How irresponsible. Quentin Deakin Tywyn, Gwynedd I was born in the same year the Nazis surrendered to the Red Army in Berlin in 1945 and to quote Winston Churchill, they “...tore the guts out of the Nazi war machine”. More than 20 million Soviet citizens perished in the Second World War and Boris Johnson insults not only Russian people, but all those who fought and died fighting fascism. James Nugent, Coulsdon, Gtr London

Surely it comes as no surprise that Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson can’t keep his big mouth shut? After all, his foot has never been far from his mouth since his student days. We can only be thankful he wasn’t a member of Winston Churchill’s wartime cabinet. One wonders how many times Theresa May has heard the words “we told you so” since making him Foreign Secretary. Mervyn Hughes, Wickford, Essex

Jeremy Corbyn is spot on to say we must do business with Russia. Boris Johnson is a disgrace who should have been sacked. It was an insult to the Red Army who did so much to destroy the Nazi war machine.

I’m no Putin fan but he is no worse than Trump or Netanyahu. Steven McNamara, Middlesbrough

I actually agree with Boris. There can be little doubt Putin will use the World Cup to bolster his corrupt regime on the world stage, much the same as Hitler used the 1936 Olympics to glorify Nazi Germany.

Britain, with our allies, must take a stance against Russia because bullies like Putin need standing up to. I also believe we should boycott the World Cup, but it won’t happen as there is too much money involved. L Smith, Southampton

Boris Johnson’s use of words make him a dangerous man and Theresa May should sack him. We don’t need him to pick fights for us. Stevie Webster Reading, Berks
