SWISS ROLL OVER POOR PANAMA

-

ENGLAND’S World Cup group opponents Panama were battered into submission by Switzerland’s first-half goal blitz.

The Central Americans, heading to their first World Cup, struggled to get out of their half for the opening 20 minutes and collapsed after falling behind.

Blerim Dzemaili exchanged passes with Mario Gavranovic before slotting the ball past Jaime Penedo to score on 22 minutes and won a penalty for Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka to score the second nine minutes later.

Breel Embolo (top) broke clear to dink the ball over Penedo in the 33rd minute and Steven Zuber made it four.

Panama created openings in an improved second half. However, substitutes Josip Drmic and Fabian Frei (inset) added further scores for the hosts, who face Brazil, Serbia and Costa Rica in their group.
