No Winx at Ascot

AUSSIE wondermare Winx will NOT appear at Royal Ascot in June, her trainer Chris Waller announced yesterday.

A European challenge — with the royal meeting as the focal point — had been mooted for the six-year-old, who racked up a world record 17th Group 1 triumph under jockey Hugh Bowman at Rosehill in Sydney last weekend.

But Waller, who stressed the decision not to travel had been made “in the best interests of Winx”, said yesterday: “Following lengthy discussions, Winx will remain in Australia and not embark on an international campaign.

“Winx has nothing to prove to anyone, she will always be regarded as a legend of the turf.”
