‘Wenger is so hungry’
ARSENE WENGER has got more “hunger” than ever to succeed as Arsenal boss – but is facing a major financial summer hurdle.
Wenger, 68, is under major pressure to save the club’s season by winning the Europa League, as missing out on a Champions League spot for a second year running could have big consequences.
Arsenal’s estimated annual wage bill of £225million is higher than Liverpool, comparable with Chelsea but not as big as the Manchester clubs – so tough financial decisions could be made this summer.
Wenger has one year left on his deal, but Gunners No.2 Steve Bould insists he is as determined as ever.
He said: “I’ve never known someone who’s as hungry and determined to win football games. It’s as big as I’ve ever seen.
“I admire him immensely. He takes unbelievable stick off an awful lot of people, but he’s just one of the great managers.”
