Moyes: Hammers ready to lay it on the line to avoid drop

- BY DARREN LEWIS

DAVID MOYES has called on West Ham stewards to do their jobs — and has primed his players to do theirs.

Joe Hart will keep his place in goal in a bold show of faith which could revive the England keeper’s World Cup hopes.

Moyes is also hoping his West Ham side will show courage under fire to breathe new live into their Premier League survival bid.

From dominating Burnley three weeks ago, they collapsed once they fell behind and fans invaded the pitch.

Moyes, who wants to stay if the Hammers survive, used his warmweather break in Miami to warn his players to be ready for anything against Southampton this afternoon. “I don’t think incidents like those we saw here last time have happened in many games,” said the Scot. “The players have to in some way be protected from these sort of situations.

“It was strange for the players and it affected them.

“So we’ve spoken to the players about what we’re going to do if anything happens. We want to make sure we don’t get into the same situation we did against Burnley. We can’t lose our focus like we did.”

Arthur Masuaku returns at leftback after his six-match spitting ban and Moyes called on fans to get behind the Congo defender.

He added: “We all do and say the wrong things and we don’t mean it. I’ve never seen a man more remorseful than Arthur.”

Moyes also defended the right of owners David Sullivan and David Gold to attend today’s game. He went on: “They are the people who put the money in. They deserve to come to the game.”
