Pippa’s dad-in-law held over child rape
HELD David Matthews PIPPA Middleton’s father-in-law was in custody in Paris last night accused of raping a child.
Multi-millionaire David Matthews, 73, is claimed to have carried out the attack between 1998 and 1999, while on holiday in France. He presented himself to judges in the capital on Tuesday after the alleged crime was reported to police.
Citing legal sources, French news agency AFP said he has been charged with the “rape of a minor by a person with authority over his victim”, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. He denies guilt.
Matthews’ son James, 41, got married to the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister Pippa, 34, in May last year.
The former racing driver is also the father of Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews, 28.
